Skin is our biggest organ, which is working nonstop. It is a perfect conductor, but also a protective barrier that protects us against physical, chemical, and biological factors, as well as disease inducing microorganisms. There is no official legal definition of natural cosmetic, which many manufacturers take advantage of by labelling their products as natural, although they contain less than 1% of natural ingredients. The only reliable confirmation that a cosmetic product is natural are the certificates of independent organizations, for example: the French ECOCERT certifying that a cosmetic product is organic or ecological, VEGAN for products suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and people with lactose intolerance, and Soil Association indicating that 95% of the ingredients are organic. The ICEA certificate guarantees that a product is free from GMO and not tested on animals; IOAS, on the other hand, provides an assurance that the substances are biologically pure and friendly for the environment and for the skin. The Polish EKO and the European EcoLabel signs confirm that a product fulfils rigorous environmental protection requirements. What is more, a real ecological product is distinguished by the fact that it does not contain: parabens, SLS, SLES, mineral oils, silicones, artificial colouring agents, glycols (PEG, PPG), GMO, and ingredients derived from dead animals (the only animal products are milk and honey from controlled organic farms). Remember that a natural cosmetic is a product in which natural ingredients account for at least 50% of the product weight and at least 5% of them come from controlled organic farms.
